Escorts
When escorts are needed and # of escorts required
All loads with front overhang of 20′ require a front escort, and with a rear 20′ overhang, a rear escort.
Escort requirements are considered on a case-by-case basis for combinations over 14′ width, 120′ length, and 16′ height, and may vary depending upon the load to be hauled.
In its rules and regulations, Arizona lists a number of state routes that require front and rear escorts, generally over 12′ in width.
Escort vehicle requirements can differ significantly by state in terms of mandatory driver qualifications, training, certifications, vehicle weights, obligatory signage/flags/lighting, necessary onboard equipment, and more.
