On highways of fewer than 4 lanes, Front and Rear escorts shall be required. Except for superloads and large structures, the rear escort may be eliminated if a warning light is attached to the top of the towing vehicle and to the rear of each load and is mounted no less than 2’ or more than 8’ above the surface of the road.
On highways consisting of 4 lanes or more, a rear escort shall be required for superloads and large structures. All other types of loads shall not require escorting.
Superloads
A superload is a vehicle transporting a nondivisible load that is either in excess of 150,000 lbs GVW or in which any group or groups of axles exceed the limitations of the regulations.
Police state escorts
Kansas Highway Patrol does not provide escorts.
Escort vehicle requirements can differ significantly by state in terms of mandatory driver qualifications, training, certifications, vehicle weights, obligatory signage/flags/lighting, necessary onboard equipment, and more. The Nova team can provide you with all additional requirements specific to your route.
