When escorts are needed and # of vehicles required
On 2-lane highways:
Width over 12′ up to 16′ requires 2 escorts (Front & Rear)
Width over 16′ requires 4 escorts (2 Front & 2 Rear)
Length over 75′ but less than 85’ requires 1 escort (Front)
Length over 85′ but less than 120′ requires 2 escorts (Front & Rear)
Length over 120 requires 3 escorts (1 Front, 2 Rear)
Height over 14’11” requires 1 Front with high pole
If load does not maintain posted speed limit, then 1 Rear escort is required
On 4 or more lane divided highways:
Width over 12′ up to 14′ requires 1 escort (Rear)
Width over 14′ up to 16′ requires 2 escorts (Front & Rear)
Width over 16′ requires 4 escorts (2 Front & 2 Rear)
Length over 110′ up to 120′ requires 1 escort (1 Rear)
Length over 120′ requires 3 escorts (1 Front, 2 Rear plus pivot/steerable dolly)
Overhang over 10′ requires 1 escort (Rear)
Height over 14’11” requires 1 Front with high pole
Super loads
A super load is anything weighing 200,000 lbs. or above.
